TOP 6 REPORT CASTAWAY TOURNAMENT TOUR – RIVERFRONT PARK 

JUNE 28, 2008

 First PlaceR. Whitehurst - W. Emerson -  Weighed in  15.61 pounds and had BIG FISH 5.62 pounds.  They fished upper Chick all day with Jigs, Spinner baits and plastics.  Had over 40 keepers all day.  They would like to thank, Costa Del Mars SW Jigs, Thurston Oil, Inside Outdoor TV, Canke Oldman Boat Raps, and Pop’s Marine.

 Second PlaceG. Cooper – R. Mutter -  Weighed in 15.39 pounds fished chick all day with topwater , crank baits and finesse worms.  They would like to thank Pop’s Marine, Good Fellow Restaurant and their wives for letting them fish.

Third PlaceR. Jamerson – T. Hanes -  Had 14.63 pounds fished James all day with plastics.

Fourth Place – J. Frances – B. Hatton -  Weighed in 13.84 fishing the  James early then went back to lower Chick with plastics and would like to thank Mare Ranger Boats, Motorguide and Motorguide Trolling Motors.  Also, had second Big Fish – 5.31 pounds.

Fifth Place – D. Aliff – G. Barber –  Had 13.75 and fished the Chick all day on plastics.

Sixth Place – C. Goodman – J. Hamilton – Had 13.63 and fished the upper Chick with top water and plastics in pads al day.  They would like to thank Hamilton Classic Cars.

Overall day there were 116 teams total Fish weight was 476 pounds with average weight per team at 7.73 pounds.  Weather was good all day with tide coming in early and dropping late.  Most boats stayed in Chick.  Would like to thank Wayne and Kim of Castaway Sporting Goods for the tour series.

TOP 5 REPORT CASTAWAY TOURNAMENT TOUR – James River May 24, 2008

 

First Place – J. POWROZNIK - W. JENNINGS had 17.01.  Powroznik was very helpful said they fished the lower James and pits on wood cover with hard bottom.  Fishing with All Terrain Creature baits with Tru-Tungsten weights in a Ranger boat powered by Yamaha.

 Second Place – L.LESTER – B. TUCKER had 16.61 pounds.  Lester stated fished the Chick on wood cover all day with Cactus Worm baits from http://www.cactusworm.com, and this team also had BIG FISH  of 5.84 pounds.

Third Place – S. YATES – S. COLGIN had 15.00 pounds and started out their day fishing the lower James.  Caught fish all day on lizards and spinner baits.  They would like to thank their wives and the good Lord!  Amen to that!

 Fourth Place – K. WHITEHURST – D. AKRIE had 14.94 pounds and they fished the Chick all day.  Fishing wood, pads and grass on worms and jigs.  They would like to thank Pop’s Marine.

Fifth Place – H. CROWDER – D. WAFF had 13.80 pounds.  They fished the Chick and James.  Caught fish on mixed bag of “little of everything” and they would like to thank McCray Electric. 

 

Overall good day.  Weather good with tide high out-going.  121 Teams fished with 46 limits.  Average fish weight 2.35 pounds.  Like to thank HERITAGE CHEVROLET for sponsorship of tour and Wayne and Kim Andrews of Castaway Sporting Goods for all their work they put into this tournament series.   One final note, we still need boaters for Special Olympics day on the River scheduled for June 29th out of Small Boat Harbor.  We only have 7 boats signed up.  Contact Jimmy Armes c:  804-389-1130 h:  794-2444.

TOP 5 REPORT CASTAWAY TOURNAMENT TOUR – KERR LAKE MAY 11, 2008

 

First Place – C .Bullock and R. Perkins had 15.92 pounds fishing mid lake bushes with Jigs Green pumpkin and had 2 limits, plus had the BIG FISH for the tournament  6.40 pounds.

Second Place – G. Smith and S. Garrett fished in Satterwhite all day and had 15.69 pounds.  Caught 5 limits of fish on jigs, watermelon and red.

Third Place – L.Inman and M. Inman fished in Nutbush using Green pumpkin worms and had a weight of 14.99.0.

Fourth Place – B. Reece and C. Lewis fished down lake at Palmer’s Point flipping pockets with senkos and finesse worms for a total weight of 14.16.

Fifth Place – J. Markham Jr.  and J. Markham III had a weight of 14.16 pounds fishing white spinner baits.

Even though it was Mother’s Day, another good day at Kerr Lake.  Thanks to the 45 teams that showed up on this day and to all their at home “Mothers” who let them fish the tournament.  38 teams caught fish and 35 teams had limits.

TOP 5 REPORT CASTAWAY TOURNAMENT TOUR – Chickahominy River Apr, 2008

 First Place – JOHNNY JACKSON - STAN KEYSER had 17.47 pounds fished in the Chick then ran to James towards Richmond.  Fished wood and rocks with Lee Allison Spinner bait and few fish came on a plastic lizard.

Second Place – BOB HINDS - DAVID COLE had 16.38 pounds.  Hinds said fished the James and Appomattox on wood and rocks with R&R Finesse worms and Bandit crank baits (no color or name divulged!)   He wanted to thank R&R Bait Company.

Third Place – JIM ONEILL - ED SMILEY had 16.15 pounds and fished up and down the James River.  They said caught on mix bag of plastics, crank baits and spinner baits, also on wood and grass.  They would like to thank Triton boats.

Fourth Place – CHUCK SCHULTZ - MARK BRANNOCK had 16.13 pounds and BIG FISH for the day of 6.41 pounds.  Chuck said fished the Chick all day on marsh shallow flats with spinner baits and soft plastics.  They would also like to thank Pop’s Marine, Kessler rods and Reel Deal Props (Robbie).

Fifth Place – ADAM LATHAN– ROBERT LATHAN had 15.57 pounds and fished the Chick with crank baits all day.  They would like to thank Pop’s Marine and BASSCAT boats.

Overall good day with 120 boats.   87 Teams had fish and 44 teams had limits at 14 inch or better.  A lot of teams reported catching a number of 12 to 13 inch fish – so Chick is back.  Had good tide all day and good weather.  A lot better start than last year, we all remember the SNOW and 30 degree weather,  I know I do!  In closing- special thanks to Castaway for all the hard work you do – it would not be possible without you!

TOP 3 REPORT CASTAWAY TOURNAMENT TOUR – KERR LAKE APR 13, 2008

Kerr Lake Series sponsored by Line X Chester and Dominion Fire Service

 

First Place – Ray Hogge and Kevin Whitehurst  Fished Nutbush Creek with crankbaits, Strike King Sexy Shad, deep and shallow running  and jigs on points for total weight of 19.33 – GOOD BAG!

 

Second Place – Walter Emerson and Robert Whitehurst fished North Bend Dam Area with homemade Jigs Green Pumpkin ˝ ounce and Riverside White spinner baits caught fish all day morning and late on bushes.  Big Fish for them 6.70 pounds total weight 19.26 pounds – CLOSE!

 

Third Place – Jackson Hudson and Frank Williams fished up Lake Grassey and Inland creek flipping brush hogs and lizards on hard wood and bare banks.   Big fish for them 5.56 pounds and total of 19.10.

 

Big Fish for tournament 7.35 caught by Tim Grein and Terry Easter fished mid-lake with brush hog standing wood and also finished in fourth place.

 

Overall day GOOD!  58 teams caught and 51 teams had limits.  As you can see some had better day.  The lake was windy with overcast and fishing behind a cold front and big BFL tournament.  We had 69 boats sign-up.  Thank you Wayne and Kim of Castaway Sporting Goods for all you do and for the tournament trail raising $690.00 for Special Olympics.
